Amusing Facts About Countries You Probably Never Heard Of
Did you know that there’s a country whose National Animal is a Fictional Animal? or another that a country issued its currency with Pokemon’s characters imprinted on it. The World indeed a crazy place, but even we didnt realized the strange things until we came across the Quora thread; It details some of the most outlandish facts about some of the Planet’s lesser known countries.
1) Unclaimed region between Egypt and Sudan :
Due to border dispute between Egypt and Sudan there is a whole block of unclaimed land which both the countries refused as their share of land. The below image explains the whole story :
See both Egypt and Sudan claim the Hala’ib Triangle as their share of land. As per Egypt the red+black straight line is the border. Whereas Sudan claims the black+green zigzag line is the border. Between these two borders there created one space, who ever claims it loses the bigger chunk, the Hala’ib Triangle. So this region is unclaimed. Hope it helps.
2) Iceland and Greenland :
Do you know Iceland and Greenland were named by two different persons who thought in similar manner but opposite. Iceland was named so to distract extra people from settling there and Greenland was named so to attract more people to settle there. 4) Niue
Though the currency commonly used in this country is the New Zealand dollar but from time to time it releases few commemorative coins. In 2001 Niue government issued a set of 5 Pokemon coins (Pikachu, Meowth, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander)

Being situated right on the International Date Line, Fiji’s Taveuni has a spot where you can stand with one foot on the current date and another on the previous date.
6) Mann
Mann, a self-governing British Crown dependency is located in the Irish Sea between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland. its flag “triskelion”, composed of three armoured legs with golden spurs, upon a red background.
7) Federated States of Micronesia
Here’s a country made of 607 islands, somewhere in the Western part of the Pacific Ocean. One of these islands, called Yap, has a rather unusual money system.
