The protocols might be hard pills to swallow, but we believe, for the sake of your own safety, these steps are very much necessary.
Travel Safety Checks:
Fitness
Every participant need to obtain a minimum fitness level before traveling on our trips or treks. By the time the event starts, the participants are expected to reach a fitness level unique for each event. We gather proof of perfomance through shared screenshot of fitness apps. We also request our participants to give sufficient time for their preparation before traveling on the trip or trek. If in case, the participant is not able to obtain the minimum fitness criteria for the trip, we request the participant to drop out and refund his/her full money. We do not wish to put your or your companion life at any risk at all. Lack of preparation not only affect you but also the whole team traveling with you. It also draws out the overall enjoyment of the trip or trek.
Experience Trek Leaders with Local Guides
The expertise of trek leaders management of the group accompanied with local guides gives us an extra safety on the trek/trip. The addition of local guide is very important to our event as he/she knows the terrain hazards like animal movement zones, poisonous flora or fruit and knows the local etiquette so that our participants do not harm the local sentiments knowing or unknowingly. The combined knowledge of Trek leader and local guide helps to evaluate any disorientation in behaviour on high altitude and perform resque operation in time to save your life. Our leaders and guide bring tremendous experience on the table, this experience has been distilled down to minute safety processes, which our staff carry out with effortless ease. Simply put, a mountain staff member who works with NW can not only save lives, but can single handedly run the whole terrain on his own. This is the level of their competence.
Experience Mountain SUV Drivers
Mountain roads are not easy like our city roads. They are more curvy and dangerous and can be driven by an experience drivers only. Rock falls or land slides makes the high terrain more dangerous and also sometime time consuming. Our drivers are well versed with the local connectivities so in case of road blocks or heavy traffic, they often choose the safest and shortest route. They are also knowledgeable about the conflict zones or restricted zones which gives extra safety to our participants and avoid any disturbance to their journey.
Medical Form
For every trip or trek we execute on himalayan terrain, we require our participants to produce a fully filled medical form from the local MD. The objective of requesting the medical form is to understand your health and medical history so that we can take proper steps in times of emergency. Knowing your medical history gives us extra information to equipe our trip or treks with appropriate gears and safety protocols. Knowing your allegies prevents us from serving you any eatables which might cause any allergic reactions and lead to your hospitalization. A signoff from MD gives us addition confirmation of your fitness and health on trip/trek.
Extra Acclimatisation Day
NW usually add an extra acclimitisation day on all our high altitude trek and trips. The reason being that it gives rest and more oxygenation time for your body. We have observed that adequate rest goes a long way in ensuring successful completion of the event. We do not charge extra fee to accomodate the acclimatisation day. We take proper measure to acclimatize you to the high altitude weather/climate. The measure we take are:
- Small trek on acclimatisation day generally less than 3 hours with not much altitude gain.
- In mountains we say, climb high but sleep low. So on every day of the trek, we climb a small portion of tomorrows trek and descend back to the base.
- We often implement a small exercise session before the trip/trek and after the trip/trek. This helps to ready or relax your muscles.
- We often monitor and maintain your sleep time, play time, meal time and rest time.
- We often carry pulse oxymeters to test your pulse and oxygen saturation level at high altitude. We track it 3 times a day.
HAM Kit
NW Trek/Trip Leaders has strict guidelines to carry a HAM or High Altitude Medical Kit for High Altitude trek/trip and First Aid Kits for Western Ghats treks. These kits contain all the emergency medication required for high altitude trips. Some of these medicines can save your life. Each Leader carry one HAM kit with him/herself .
