Out of the best, Munnar and Varkala are most beautiful places to visit in South India. Nature Walkers brings a unique itinerary combining both these destinations in one journey. Munnar with its dense green carpet of tea gardens and jungles and Varkala with its cliffs and beaches are one of the favorite tourist places in South India. With an intention of touching the wild of Kerala, we have included a Meesapulimala Trek & Forest camping to be the first fold of our travel map.
Mesaapulimala Trek.
Meesapulimala is the second highest peak and the highest trekking path in the Western Ghats after Anamudi. Its peak is 2,640 meters (8,661 ft) above sea level.
The name of the place is derived from the fact that “with eight hills in a curvy row spread like a Tiger’s mustache hence, “Meesa-puli-mala”. (puli in Malayalam mean Tiger) It is considered to be most beautiful mountains to climb over in the South Western Ghats region.
The Best part of the Meesapulimala Trek are the Rhododendrons flowers. The whole valley is named after this flower – Rodo Valley. It’s because it the only places you see these rhododendron flowers in south India. it grows in abundance in Sikkim and nearby Himalayan regions. Rhododendron trees are actually the state tree of state Sikkim.
Please Note : The Campsite of this Messapulimala Trek located in Silent Valley of Munnar, just below the Rodo Valley. A peek from the Tent would give a panoramic view of town Munnar valley, located in the middle of mountains and waterfalls.

Varkala Backpacking
Varkala is the only place in southern Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea.
The Geological Survey of India declares Varkala as a geological monument of India. The Cenozoic sedimentary formation clicks are very unique geological feature because of which its popularly known as Varkala Formation among geologist. In 2015, Ministry of Mines, The government of India and Geological Survey of India (GSI) have declared Varkala Cliff as a geo-heritage site.
For its geo-heritage and soft sandy beaches, Varkala backpacking was added as one of the destination in famous Hippie Trail, listing this places in global maps giving a tremendous advantage for tourism in India. There are numerous cafes, restaurants, water spouts and ayurvedic spas on the sides of these cliffs.
For us, Varkala is a small island shore of heaven. truly you could never witness such culture mix of the world at a place beside coast in India. White sand, Green tall coconut trees.
