The tucked in valleys of the mountain will bring you the softest melody sung by the wind there. The cloudy mist in your fist and the trails of the mountain will make you forget that civilization exists. With the absolute bliss of forgetting work and the responsibilities it brings, Kudremukha becomes your instant home under your feet at that moment.

For the first time in 4-5 years, the trek to Kudremukha is open between January and April. Having the monsoons just ended, one can experience the lively little streams trickling down the mountains especially in this season. These ranges are seen in full bloom with orchids and mosses as it welcomes the summer.

The alluring beauty of Kudremukha has a price to pay. It is nothing but being a little physically fit and be able to mentally push you out of your comfort zone. To climb up and down a total distance of 22 km within 7 hours is difficult but definitely not impossible. A daily dose of any physical activity will pay back hugely. Every sweat bead you spill doing a 5 km swift walk or a jog in the morning or evening will be repaid when you reach the peak and see that “Kudre Mukha” (Horse Face).

Apart from being physically fit, developing mental stamina by yoga and meditation will be most beneficial not just in this trek but also in the long run.

As a point to note, while preparing yourself for such an amazing trek, being ecologically aware is most necessary. Prepare your backpack in such a way that no polythene or plastics are discarded anywhere in your journey like reusable water bottles, steel dabbas for pack lunch. Make sure you are not leaving your carbon footprint upon the mountains which are home to various flora and fauna. With this, you are all set to go for the rendezvous trek. The joy of being able to make it to the peak with like-minded people will be totally worth it.

Climbing mountains is a kind of yogic meditation. It rejuvenates you from within and clears up the mind from the clutter of thoughts that eat away. This one-day long trek to Kudremukha peak scaling up and down 6214 feet not only demands your entire physical and mental attention but also, in turn, embraces you into its solitude. As you trod on each step to ascend the mountain, it yields under your feet.

When on top it makes you realize, that it was not you that succeeded the mountain but the mountain let you succeed. The tough terrain enables you to treasure every single ounce of energy in your body and the food in the backpack will become the prize you earn.

Filling a sense of achievement after a challenging trek is what a trek is worth. The clouds that pass by you, those curved valleys with the streams flowing, and the whole scenery of grassland scattered with narrow strips of forests etches unforgettable memory.

The hand you took for support, that murukku (around crunchy snack) you ate from fellow trekker’s snacks treasure, that song you sang for anthakshari during campfire, those fresh mineral-rich water from the stream, and the mighty mountain are the things that will come in your dream when you sleep that night marking it as an impeccable journey to the ranges of Kudremukha.
